Gender and Disaster Risk Reduction Training Module Illustrations
Duryog Nivaran, a research, training and advocacy network focused on disaster risk reduction and disaster risk mitigation efforts in South Asia, envisioned illustrations to visually assist a Gender and Disaster Risk Reduction training course targeted primarily at state officials working in state institutions mandated to address disaster risk.
The idea was to reduce the monotony of just sharing definitions for the course.
When dealing with abstract and complex topics such as Gender Integration and Gender Mainstreaming, it made more sense to explain these concepts in a comic panel explainer accompanied by text so that the speaker can confidently explain the message for the course.
Bridging the gap on risk mitigation and gender harm through illustrations can be challenging. The team at DN trusted the process with the illustration and explainer direction for their Gender and Disaster Risk Reduction Training Module.
