Native Hawaiians folks discuss a tract on Mutual Stewardship related to their work on a telescope that was proposed to be built on Mauna Kea and the protests around that.
From left to right: Two local boys involved in planting, Palila bird, natives in protest, a local Mojave Desert tortoise, data screens, Mamane, a summit of observatories, a radio array.
My process involved conducting research on native elements close to the site, understanding the flora and fauna, as well as the main theme of the workshop, Mutual Stewardship, to better convey the message visually.
Additional resources like this article on the Philosophy and Elements of Mutual Stewardship by Norma Wong, author and speaker at the Hawaiʻi I Ke Alo mutual stewardship project, helped bridge common understanding with the deeper messages embedded in the project.
